World Tourism Day 2021: Inclusive Growth - Tourism restarts in Iran

On World Tourism Day 2021 UNWTO is focusing on Inclusive Growth which requires all tourism activists and related businesses to make sure nobody is left behind after the long break caused by the COVID-19 pandemic which hit all the sectors of tourism in the world. In Iran, the authorities have announced the restart of tourism and issuing Iran visa from October 23 2021.

World Tourism Day is celebrated every year on September 27th to raise awareness and highlight the important role and impact of tourism on a region’s culture, economy, society and politics, as one of the most significant and vast sectors and industries of modern world, which employs one in every ten people on earth.

World Tourism Day: History

UNWTO (United Nations World Tourism Organization) is an international and non-governmental organization which was established in 1975 in London and during its third sessions in Spain it decided to celebrate World Tourism Day every year on September 27. The first celebration of World Tourism Day was in the year 1980.

Impact pf COVID-19 on tourism

COVID-19 pandemic had a deep impact on almost every developed or developing industry and business, and tourism is known to be one of the most affected industries. The impact of Covid-19 pandemic is predicted to cause more than $4 trillion loss to the global economy of tourism. Therefore, this pandemic is considered as the biggest crisis in the history of tourism which is continued to its second year. Despite of some small uptick, the emergence of Coronavirus variants has caused big percentage of decrease in touristic arrivals all over the world compared with previous years. However, the tourism experts of the world do not expect a full recovery of tourism and a situation similar to pre-COVID arrival level until 2023 or later, the global vaccination has helped domestic tourism to recover in many parts of the world as nature based tours and activities, or one-day excursions with lower risks.

With all the impacts of COVID-19 on world of tourism, World Tourism Day 2021 is focusing on rebuilding tourism and negotiating the future of tourism sector. As recognized by SDGs (sustainable development goals) tourism has a great potential to make sure that nobody is left behind, and that is why World Tourism Day 2021 is focusing on Tourism for Inclusive Growth. This means considering each number and statistic of the industry as one person who is active in the vast industry of tourism, and UNWTO all of its members from all over the world and also its sister UN agencies, related businesses and agencies to join the wave which is started to ensure that no tourism activist is left behind as the world tourism is getting started after its long break.

World Tourism Day 2021: Iran

The great news about Iran as one of the developing countries where the public vaccination was started later than most of the countries in the world, is that the Iranian government has declared that the borders are getting open to foreign travelers years and the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is starting to issue touristic Iran visa from October 23rd 2021 after a long break because of the COVID pandemic which took more than 1.5 years and is now finishing by the public vaccination.
